About
Welcome to your new cue.
Barry Broadbent, the founder and owner of Ebbro Cues, known to many as the “original” Cue Doctor of Oldham and Royton is now to be found in the village of Mellor between Preston and Clitheroe in the heart of the Ribble Valley.
Ebbro Cues exists to satisfy the needs of the cue purist while also being on hand for the many repairs and personalised alterations the cue owner requires.
EBBRO Philosophy
When Barry became a cue maker 45 years ago it was to satisfy his intense curiosity of the old craft methods of cue manufacture. Having seen several vintage ornamental cues of the 1880’s and (in his opinion) the “Rolls-Royce” of the 1920’s the Willie Smith cue by Burroughs and Watts, he decided that the name “Vintage” admirably portrayed the excellence of cue that he was striving for and which has now become such a prized possession of so many people as reiterated on the cues n views/essential cue collection website. However advertising and shouting about how our cues are the best, has never been our forte preferring to let distinctive style and workmanship coupled with the use of quality materials and traditional tools speak for themselves in the understated way of the true artisan.

Repairs and Alterations.
Don’t throw away your cherished but damaged cue as we can rebuild anything (almost)!
Quality and attention to detail are the by-words of the business from the simplest cue tip replacement to complex repairs and rebuilds of a favourite cue. While we strive to produce bespoke cues fit for purpose they are also intended to become a treasured heirloom.
We regularly service cues making them ready for the new snooker season or those brought out of retirement after a period of time lying unused readying them for use once more
Materials
We use sustainable Canadian Maple and Ash shafts, ethically sourced Ebony and other exotic hardwoods such as Brazilian Tulipwood, North African Thuya Burr, North American Birdseye Maple, French Guianan Snakewood, Kingwood and Mexican Cocobolo for butts.
We can also incorporate coloured wood veneers. Traditional brass joints are used as part of the finishing process.
Services
Virtually any repair can be carried out once your cue has been evaluated by ourselves and your instructions received, NO price will be given before such evaluation and inspection has been carried out.
Ferrules and Tips
Brass and steel ferrules can be made to specified size. The tips provided are generally Elk Master but clients own tips can also be fitted on request.
Tapering
Tapering is generally done towards the tip of the cue but can be extended through the full length of the cue.
Weight adjustment
Weight adjustments can be made upwards or downwards. It should be noted that this will also adjust the balance point.
Lengthening Cues
Cues will be lengthened following the 4 Point Splicing Method, this being the accepted traditional way of professional lengthening.
Brass Screw-In Joints
Brass joints can be fitted to create ½ or ¾ cue splits and butt extensions using normal or our own quick release joints.
Bespoke Cues
We can make bespoke cues to customer instructions in relation to materials, length, weight, joints, splicing, extensions and final finish.
BJB Art in Wood
Barry has recently joined forces with his wife Janine to create BJB Art in Wood where Barry takes his years of experience in cue making and industrial model making in a new direction creating beautiful sculptured items in exotic timbers and other mediums.
